A SHORT HISTORY OF

ALL SAINTS’ & ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH

PAKEFIELD

Many years of scholarly research by the late Canon B.P.W. Stather Hunt culminated in the publication of his “FLINTEN HISTORY” upon which, in the main, this short history is based. (“Flinten History” is out of print).

This outline is in two parts: the first, which tells the story of the church, combines information culled from the church itself, with historic facts which (with the aid of a little imagination) gives briefly – and we hope, with reasonable accuracy – an outline of the long and unique history of one of the oldest churches in England.

It is hoped that the second part will help you to realise the architectural and ecclesiastical significance of some of the things that can be seen both inside and outside the church – things which otherwise might mean little or nothing to you.
