This month we went all out and had a mega Messy Church to finish the year off! The theme was Jesus is our Light, our strength, and our hope. We covered remembrance, advent and light over darkness. It was a busy session! In our talk we heard how God sent Jesus as the light of the world, and that no matter how dark it gets, Jesus’ light will always shine through.

We sang the traditional version of “this little light of mine”, and then a really great new version with rap music combined, which the children (and the helpers!) enjoyed jumping around to!

Craft time involved making a lantern. This was so popular that we completely cleared the table of resources! We also made a florescent painting wall where the children could freely play with the paint. It looked very effective. Poppies made of crepe paper, and an Advent cutting out craft kept the children (and adults) busy.

Then there was just enough time to have the puppets and prayers, before we lined up with our lanterns and had a light walk to the church hall for dinner. The procession looked amazing … with the painting wall the children had made, leading as a banner, and sounds of ‘This little light of mine’ being sung by various children!

Thank you to all of the volunteers for their help and support over the whole of 2017. I look forward to working with you all in 2018!

Wishing all of our Messy Church family, a wonderful Christmas! See you again on January 11th 2018!

Merry Christmas!
